According to The Information, Apple is experiencing production issues with the displays of its upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. These issues may result in a limited supply at the anticipated September launch. According to rumours, the iPhone 15 Pro models may have a curved design with narrower bezels than the iPhone 14 Pro models. However, the fundamental source of the manufacturing challenges is the reduction in bezel size.
Apple’s vendors are using a new display production method to achieve lower bezels. Unfortunately, this has caused issues for LG Display, since panels failed reliability testing during the fusion process with a metal casing. As a result, according to the cited source, Apple is actively working on altering the LG display design and is also reportedly contemplating Samsung panels if the firm continues to suffer manufacturing challenges.
Despite these obstacles, it has been stated that Apple is unlikely to delay the release of the iPhone 15 Pro & iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, due to manufacturing issues, fewer units may be available at the time of release. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is thought to be the more affected of the two models, potentially resulting in shortages after the launch event.
Previously, there were rumours of a “few weeks” delay for the iPhone 15 devices, as indicated in research by a Bank of America analyst. According to the most recent source, Apple will stick to its original plan and unveil its next-generation iPhones in September of this year.
All iPhone 15 models are expected to include the Dynamic Island feature, which means a punch-hole notch design. The regular model may be powered by an A16 SoC, whilst the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max may be powered by the newest Bionic A17 processor.
The battery capacity of the iPhone 15 variants may be significantly higher than that of their predecessors. The iPhone 15 is expected to contain a 3,877mAh battery, up from the 3,279mAh one found in the iPhone 14. The iPhone 15 Plus is rumoured to have a larger 4,912mAh battery, which is a major boost above the 4,325mAh capacity of the iPhone 14 Plus.
In a break from past generations, the iPhone 15 series could replace Apple’s Lightning port with a USB Type-C port. The Pro Max variant could include a customisable Action button, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra, as well as a larger camera module with a triple rear camera arrangement. There are strong hints of a new periscope lens with an optical zoom of up to 5-6x, as well as additional accompanying sensors, which will most likely result in superior portrait photographs.
