As many Apple Arcade game fans are aware, Apple’s mobile devices and Apple TV set-top boxes accept a variety of popular gaming controllers out of the box. Since April 2021, for example, these devices have supported PlayStation 5 DualSense and Xbox Series X controllers.

Apple has introduced support for Nintendo Switch N64 controllers in its newest round of software updates (October 2023), so if you have one of these lying around, you can now play better than you would with on-screen touch controls or your Apple TV Remote.

The methods below demonstrate how to pair an N64 controller with your Apple device. You must update your iPhone / iPad to iOS 17.1/iPadOS 17.1 (Settings > General > Software Update), your Mac to macOS Sonoma 14.1 (System Settings > General > Software Update), or the Apple TV to tvOS 17.1 (Settings > System > Software Updates) if you haven’t already.

How to Connect Nintendo Switch N64 Controllers to Apple Devices?

  1. Navigate to the Bluetooth menu on your Apple device by opening the Settings app.
  2. Hold down the SYNC Button on the Nintendo 64 Controller you want to pair for at least one second.
  3. Tap the discovered N64 controller under “Other Devices” on your Apple device to connect. If you’re using Apple TV, your connection will be confirmed by a tvOS notification.
