How to Change the Default Card in Apple Pay

How to Change the Default Card in Apple Pay? The first card you enter into the Wallet app is the default card for Apple Pay payments. But what if you wish to make a different card your default option? Fortunately, switching things around and switching cards is a rather simple process.

How to Change the Default Card in Apple Pay?

This post will show you how to change your Apple Pay default card.

Choosing the Default Card:

Changing your Apple Pay default card is a good idea if you want to earn extra reward points on a certain card or avoid unauthorised purchases. You could also use a card with a cheaper interest rate or one with a promotional period with no purchase fees.

Here’s how to change your Apple Pay default card:

  1. Navigate to the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Select Wallet & Apple Pay.
  3. Scroll down to the section under Transaction Defaults.
  4. Select the Default Card option.
  5. Choose which card you want to be the default for Apple Pay.
  6. Open the wallet app if you frequently swap between cards.
  7. Tap on the desired card, then touch and hold.
  8. Bring it to the top.
  9. Check that the desired card is now your default card to validate this change.
  10. Begin using your new default card with Apple Pay.

Editing Cards:

It is simple to add or remove cards from your Apple Wallet. This enables you to update card information or delete cards that are no longer needed.

To change or delete a card, perform the following:

  1. On your iPhone, launch the Wallet app.
  2. Tap the card you want to change or delete.
  3. Scroll down and select either Edit Card or Remove Card.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to update your card’s information or confirm removal.

You can update a saved card if you have a new card with the same number but an expiration date later than the previous one. If you make changes to this card, it will continue to work with Apple Pay.

When you remove a credit card from your Wallet app, it is deleted from Apple Pay on all of your devices.

Why Should You Change Your Default Card?

Here are the primary reasons why you might need to change your Apple Pay default card:

  • New card: When you receive a new credit or debit card, you must update the card information in your iPhone Wallet. Check that all of your cards are up to date so that they can be used with Apple Pay.
  • Fraudulent charges: If fraudulent charges emerge on your default card, you should immediately deactivate that card from Apple Pay and choose another default card to protect your accounts.
  • Earn rewards: If you have multiple reward cards, try switching the default card to earn extra points or money on Apple Pay transactions. Set the most advantageous card as your default.

Because the default card will be used for all Apple Pay purchases, be sure it accurately represents your needs and preferences.
